Une infection du site opératoire est typiquement une infection hospitalière. Les causes des infections du site opératoire sont presque toujours en relation avec des éléments pré- et / ou per-opératoires. Dans toutes les statistiques qui relèvent la fréquence des infections hospitalières, les infections du site opératoires, avec les infections urinaires et respiratoires, se situent parmi les plus fréquentes. La prévention des infections du site opératoire se situe au niveau de l’acte chirurgical.
