An exposure limit is the concentration of a chemical in the workplace air to which most people can be exposed without experiencing harmful effects.

OBS

Exposure limits have different names and different meanings depending on who developed them and whether or not they are legal limits. For example, Threshold Limit Values (TLVs) are exposure guidelines developed by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH). They have been adopted by several Canadian governments as their legal limits. Permissible Exposure Limits (PELs) are legal exposure limits in the United States.
