Listeria monocytogenes [is a] gram-positive bacillus [that] is transmitted in contaminated food-including raw meat, poultry, and milk. Several groups of individuals have an increased risk of developing [listeriosis] including pregnant women, neonates, elderly persons, diabetics, and immunocompromised individuals.
