A monument located on the Vimy Ridge overlooking the Douai Plain in the Pas-de-Calais, near the town of Arras, France, constructed as a tribute to the Canadians who participated in the First World War, particularly to those lost in the conflict who have no known grave, and designated as of national historic and architectural significance by Parks Canada on April 10, 1997 and plaqued on November 9 of the same year. 1, record 1, English, - Canadian%20National%20Vimy%20Memorial

The construction of the monument started in 1925 and it was unveiled on July 26, 1936, by King Edward VIII. Le monument, dont la construction a commencé en 1925 et qui a été dévoilé le 26 juillet 1936 par le roi Édouard VIII, a été désigné d'importance historique et architecturale nationale par Parcs Canada le 10 avril 1997 et la plaque l'indiquant y a été dévoilée le 9 novembre de la même année. Vimy : chef-lieu de canton du Pas-de-Calais. La crête de Vimy, qui commande la plaine de Douai, a été le théâtre de quatre batailles; la première, en 1915, à la suite de laquelle les Français durent abandonner; les trois autres en avril, juillet et septembre 1917, au cours desquelles les Canadiens de l'armée Byng, conduits par Currie, reconquirent la ville et ses environs sur les Bavarois.
