Lamproite magmas are derived by partial melting of ancient, enriched (metasomatized, i.e., amphibole-, phlogopite- and apatite-bearing) upper mantle sources (lithospheric) which have previously been depleted in Na, Al, and Ca (leaving a residuum of harzburgitic composition).
