La moraine de chevauchement se situe à un endroit où le glacier avait presque atteint sa limite d'extension et à un endroit où il a dû remonter une pente après s'être écoulé dans la dépression de la vallée de la rivière Thomsen. Selon Moran (1971), ce genre de situation est favorable à un écoulement compressif du glacier et à la formation de moraines de chevauchement.
