Policy Research Initiative, Sustainable Development. The issue of public-private partnership is always complex, and this is even more so in the case of municipal water supply. This paper provides a critical review of the literature on this topic. Although there is a particular emphasis on lessons learned from and for the Canadian context, Canadian experience of PPPs in the water sector is limited, so most of the relevant literature refers to experiences in other countries which are frequently non-analogous.

La question des partenariats public-privé est toujours complexe et elle l'est d'autant plus dans le cas des infrastructures municipales d'eau potable. Le présent exposé est une analyse documentaire critique de la question. Même si l'accent est mis sur les leçons à tirer du contexte canadien et sur celles qui pourraient s'y appliquer, l'expérience canadienne des PPP dans le secteur de l'eau est limitée, et la plupart des études pertinentes portent sur les expériences d'autres pays qui sont souvent dissemblables.
