Les sources d'eau. Une installation [fixe d'extinction d'incendie] doit pouvoir fonctionner pendant une heure au minimum, pour un débit de 3 000 litres/minute. [...] Dans la pratique [...] les installations sont alimentées par 2 sources d'eau : l'une entrant en action sans intervention humaine est dite automatique. Elle peut avoir une capacité réduite. Les sources automatiques sont soit des châteaux d'eau, soit un réservoir sous pression d'air, dit bac de pression. L'autre est une source inépuisable pouvant fournir un minimum de 180 m³ d'eau. Elle est généralement constituée par une distribution d'eau publique ou privée, une pompe ou une nappe d'eau à une altitude supérieure de 10 m au moins à celle de l'établissement à protéger.
