A feeder port is a port where the large ocean vessels normally don't go. Partly because there are not enough containers to load onto a large ocean vessel or because the port is not large enough to handle the large ocean vessels.

Il existe divers exemples de ports de collecte qui ont du succès dans le monde. Par exemple, le port de Kotka, en Finlande, est l'extrémité de nombreux trajets de collecte. Chaque semaine, le port reçoit 19 navires de collecte et 13 rouliers, ce qui le relie à des ports pivots et à des marchés aux Pays-Bas, en Belgique, en Allemagne, en Russie, au Royaume-Uni et en Espagne.
