The National Core French Assessment Project is sponsored by the Canadian Association of Second Language Teachers. Thanks to the Department's support as well as that of participating provinces and territories, teachers had the opportunity to collaborate on the development of this practical document containing various instruments for assessing the learning of French as a second language. The goal of the project was to design prototype instruments to be used in formative evaluation of students' learning of core French at the three levels found in school boards across Canada: beginner, intermediate and advanced.

Le Projet pancanadien en évaluation formative en français de base est parrainé par l'Association canadienne des professeurs de langues secondes. Grâce à l'appui du Ministère ainsi que des provinces et des territoires participants, les enseignants ont pu collaborer à la réalisation de l'ouvrage qui regroupe divers instruments utiles à l'évaluation formative des apprentissages en français, langue seconde. Ce projet a pour but d'élaborer des prototypes d'instruments d'évaluation formative des apprentissages des élèves en français de base aux trois niveaux offerts dans les conseils ou commissions scolaires à travers le Canada : débutant, intermédiaire et avancé.
