A gene of HIV that plays a role in viral replication by regulating the transcription of viral DNA into RNA; also the protein produced by that gene. 1, record 1, English, - transactivator%20of%20transcription
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
"tat" is gene of HIV. This gene produces the Tat protein, which greatly assists HIV replication and is probably essential for HIV infection. 2, record 1, English, - transactivator%20of%20transcription

Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
One of the first viral genes to be transcribed, tat, is encoded in the short transcripts and produces a regulatory protein that speeds up transcription of the HIV provirus. This protein acts by binding to specific sequences within the viral RNA called TAR. Once the tat protein binds to the TAR sequence, transcription of the provirus by cellular RNA polymerase II accelerates at least 1,000-fold. 3, record 2, English, - trans%2Dacting%20responsive%20element

3, record 2, French, - prot%C3%A9ine%20transactivatrice
