The Corporate Administrative Shared Services (CASS) initiative was established to explore the feasibility of adopting a shared services approach to deliver internal corporate and administrative functions across multiple government departments and agencies. Shared services are defined as the consolidations of common systems and functions that are standardized with a minimum of variation and shared by many. Typically, these services include human resources, finance and materiel management, as well as the information systems and services that support these activities. The goals of shared services are to enhance efficiency, reduce duplication and standardize the information produced.

L'initiative des services administratifs ministériels partagés (SAMP) a été établie pour examiner la faisabilité d'adopter une approche favorable au partage des services pour l'exercice des fonctions générales et administratives internes au sein de divers ministères et organismes fédéraux. Par services partagés, on entend le regroupement de fonctions et de systèmes communs qui sont normalisés, qui comportent un minimum de variantes et qui son largement humaines, des finances et du matériel ainsi que les systèmes et les services d'information qui appuient ces activités. Le partage des services a pour but d'accroître l'efficience, de réduire les dédoublements et de normaliser l'information produite.
