Beginning in 2000, a group of concerned citizens met regularly to discuss models of protection for the Ottawa River. In 2001, they formed a board of directors and started Ottawa Riverkeeper, the third waterkeeper program in Canada to be licensed by the international Waterkeeper Alliance. ... The citizen-based Ottawa Riverkeeper is the voice that works to protect and enhance the ecological health and integrity of the Ottawa River system. Through expert, independent action Ottawa Riverkeeper encourages responsible decision-making, public education and participation, and compliance with existing protection regulations throughout the watershed. Ottawa Riverkeeper is an independent science-based organization concerned first and foremost with the protection of the Ottawa River's ecological integrity. Our objectives are to achieve a healthy, ecologically sustainable Ottawa River available for the enjoyment and benefit of its Ontario and Québec communities; and to work independently as well as co-operatively with individuals, businesses, community groups and all levels of government on both sides of the river to achieve our mission.  1, record 1, English, - Ottawa%20Riverkeeper

En 2001, ils formèrent un conseil d'administration qui allait donner naissance à Sentinelle Outaouais, le troisième programme de protection de l'eau au Canada à obtenir une licence de l'organisme international Waterkeeper Alliance. [...] Sentinelle Outaouais, l'organisme par et pour les citoyens, protège et améliore la santé et l'intégrité écologique du réseau de la rivière des Outaouais. De par les gestes posés par des spécialistes et des citoyens, Sentinelle Outaouais favorise la prise de décisions responsable, l'éducation et la participation du public ainsi que le respect de la réglementation actuelle en matière de protection d'un bout à l'autre du bassin versant.
