Selon Gerald Lattin, le service dirigé par la gouvernante (housekeeper) ferait partie du service du hall, appelé quelquefois service d'accueil, (cf. MAZETTI et FRANCILLON, 1967 : 100). Comme nous pouvons le voir, d'autre part, Lundberg fait une nette distinction entre les deux. La même distinction est faite dans l'hôtellerie française.
