Record 1 - external organization data 2022-01-13

English

Subject field(s)
  • Compartment - Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)
DEF

A right of use over the property of another.

OBS

The easement is normally for the benefit of adjoining lands rather than for the benefit of a specific individual. The land having the right of use is known as the dominant property, and the land which is subject to the easement is known as the servient property. The easement grants the owner of the dominant property an interest in the land for the right to use the servient property for a specific purpose.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Tiroir - Gendarmerie royale du Canada (GRC)
DEF

International regimes are sometimes compared to so-called servitudes, which is a term used in international law on an analogy with Roman law to mean a charge on premises in favour of the owner of another piece of land. Examples can be seen in the difference between the frontiers which are drawn for political and for customs purposes in various parts of the world.
