Interest in advanced CAI at the computer-based Learning Project at Leeds led to the definition of a framework for "intelligent teaching systems" and developed into early investigations of teaching strategies. The QUADRATIC tutor can monitor its own teaching performance and modify its rule-based strategies, adopting the ones that result in improvement with respect to its explicit goals.
