Le rôle d'un technicien en géomatique, c'est de fournir des cartes, des analyses, des éléments visuels à notre chaîne de commandement pour supporter la mission. Selon les besoins de la chaîne de commandement, on va produire des cartes pour leur montrer le chemin, des cartes pour leur montrer la route, donner des analyses de terrain, leur dire quels types de véhicules peuvent passer sur quel type de terrain, sur quel type de route. Le métier de technicien en géomatique supporte l'infanterie, les métiers de l'Armée de terre en leur donnant le chemin à prendre. Ils sont directement impliqués dans le processus de planification militaire et peuvent influencer la prise de décisions de niveau supérieur.
