Le till de fond est déposé quand le glacier abandonne les débris rocheux qu'il traîne à sa base. Il en résulte une accumulation compacte et dense qui peut atteindre plusieurs dizaines de mètres d'épaisseur.

OBS

Le terme «till de fond» désigne sans distinction les tills dont les particules sont orientées et les tills dont les particules ne le sont pas. Le terme anglais «lodgment till» ne désigne que les tills composés de particules qui ont leur grand axe orienté dans le sens de l'écoulement glaciaire.

OBS

Le terme français «till» est utilisé au Canada comme équivalent de «till» anglais et désigne les matériaux qui constituent la moraine. Les auteurs européens utilisent le terme «moraine» pour désigner à la fois le contenant («moraine» au Canada) et le contenu («till» au Canada) et n'utilisent pas le terme «till».
