Chacune des neuf tranches de quelques kilomètres d'altitude qui subdivisent la basse et la moyenne atmosphères pour lesquelles on essaie d'établir, par la méthode Umkehr, le pourcentage de la quantité d'ozone total qui s'y trouve.

OBS

Les sept premières couches Umkehr vont de la surface terrestre à environ trente-sept kilomètres d'altitude; les deux dernières comprennent encore une dizaine de kilomètres.
