Transketolase requires thiamine pyrophosphate and magnesium. The reaction is freely reversible.

Enzyme catalysant le transfert réversible de l'aléhyde glycolique d'un cétose-phosphate à un aldose-phosphate. Elle a pour coenzyme le pyrophosphate de thiamine, sur lequel se fixe le groupement glycolaldéhyde en formant ainsi une combinaison intermédiaire.
