La mesure de la couleur d'une eau naturelle se fait par comparaison avec une échelle artificielle de couleur. La substance de référence choisie est le chloroplatinate de potassium (...) dans une solution de chlorure de cobalt (...). Ce mélange a été proposé par HAZEN (1892) car sa couleur se rapproche de celle des eaux naturelles. L'unité de couleur -- unité HAZEN -- correspond à 1 mg/1 de platine (...).
