CONT

The actual formation of a woven fabric begins with the weave, that is, the third element in the process. Weave is the system of interlacing lengthwise yarns ("ends") with crosswise filling yarns ("picks"). While there are many varieties of weaves, all are developed from the three basic weaves: plain, twill, and satin. Plain weave is simply "one up and one down."... Among heavy plain weave fabrics are cotton ducks.... Sheeting and fine-combed cottons such as lawns, airplane and balloon cloth, and typewriter ribbon fabric are other examples of plain weave fabrics.

OBS

Plain weave: The most common of the fundamental weaves. Each filling yarn passes successively over and under each warp yarn, alternating each row. Sometimes called the one-up and one-down weave.

OBS

DEF

The basic weaving pattern, in which each thread of the warp is interlaced with filling thread, or woof, is called the plain, or taffeta, weave. The word taffeta probably originated from the Persian taftah, meaning "twist." Familiar names for fabrics in the plain weave are batiste, broadcloth, calico, cambric, crepe, challis, cheesecloth, chintz, muslin, organdy, percale, seersucker, voile, and tweed.

DEF

The plain weave, also called ground weave or taffeta weave, is probably the oldest and most basic kind of threads interlacing. Both woven fabric sides show the same pattern. The repetition of a thread interlace is called pattern repeat; with plain woven fabrics it comprises two warp and two weft threats each.

DEF

The simplest of all weave interlacings in which the odd warps threads operate over one and under one weft thread throughout the fabric with the even warp threads reversing this order to under one, over one, throughout.

CONT

Surface finish ... there are two very popular surface finishes in demand, Plain Weave and Black Matte. Plain Weave is the common "checkerboard" finish that easily demonstrates the presence of graphite in the product ... Plain Weave fabrics that we use on our laminates very often have "tracers", or colored yams that allow manufacturers to verify that fiber position is correct in larger structures.

CONT

Woven fabrics are mostly of simple construction such as the plain weave ... in simple construction there is only one set of warp yarns (the lengthwise yarn) and one set of weft yarns (the cross-wise yarn) making up the fabric, and all are equally responsible for the strength and appearance of the fabric. Patterns and effects are obtained by using various coloured yarns, different size yarns ... The simplest of weaves is the plain weave. Each weft yarn passes alternately over and under each wrap yarn. They are reversible, unless printed or finished, are of firm construction and wear well.

DEF
