L'artère splénique (ou «artère liénale») irrigue non seulement la rate mais aussi le pancréas et une partie de l'estomac. Branche volumineuse du tronc cœliaque, elle a une longueur variable avec un trajet beaucoup plus sinueux que son homologue veineux. Exceptionnellement, l'artère splénique peut naître de l'artère mésentérique supérieure ou directement de l'aorte abdominale.
