BANDE ABSORPTION [3 records]

Record 1 2012-04-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Environmental Studies and Analyses
  • Remote Sensing
DEF

Dark band which occur in the spectrum of a radiation source as a result of the absorption of radiant quanta by molecules between the source and a spectrometer.

OBS

This absorption causes the vibrational and/or rotational energy states of the molecules to be increased.

OBS

absorption band: term officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 Terminology Approval Group (RTAG).

PHR

Relative absorption band depth.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Chimie analytique
  • Études et analyses environnementales
  • Télédétection
DEF

Record 2 2004-11-19

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atmospheric Physics
  • Electromagnetic Radiation
DEF

water-vapour bands: Dark bands in the solar spectrum caused by the absorption of solar radiation by the water vapour contained in the Earth's atmosphere.

OBS

The water-vapor absorption spectrum is composed of fairly strong vibration-rotation bands near 1.4, 1.8 and 2.7 microns, an extremely strong vibration-rotation band centered near 6.3 microns, and a dense series of moderately strong rotational bands that begin near 11 microns and grow generally stronger with increasing wavelength beyond about 30 microns, which is the limit of the region of meteorological interest.

Key term(s)
  • water-vapor band
  • water vapor band
  • water vapour absorption band
  • water vapor absorption band
  • water-vaper absorption band
  • absorption band of water vapour
  • band of water vapour

DEF
