Heteroderidae. Cyst nematodes, highly specific, attacking members of but few genera in a given plant family, partially endoparasitic, quite sedentary, attached to root by neck only. The female is lemon-shaped to globoid, white, yellow, or brown, 0.5 to 0.75 mm. Eggs are deposited or retained in body of mother, whose leathery wall forms a true cyst. Eggs remain alive for years in cysts, which are spread by wind or in soil around nonhost plants.

In gating into hollow tubes, flow considerations can dictate an even injection flow pattern. A single gate is not sufficient. Four gates 90° from each other produce four flow lines down the side of the piece, which may be objectionable. To overcome this, a diaphragm gate is used. The inside of the hole is filled with plastic directly from the sprue and acts as a gate. It must be machined out later. A ring gate accomplishes the same thing from the outside.

A generic term used to describe any soft, relatively slow and delicate shot hit with very little pace or depth low over the net and usually at an acute angle, but also at the feet of an opponent if he is inside the service court area. Used especially to neutralize the effectiveness of volleying attacks.

Although a "chip shot" is usually shallow, forcing an opponent to move quickly forward to hit up on a low ball right into the waiting hands of the attacker, the term is not entirely synonymous with "dink". The latter is more generic in that it may refer to any shallow shot hit with much or very little spin. Moreover, it usually implies a certain degree of ruse and deception with the use of body language unlike the neutrality of the term "chip". "Dinker" is the slang term often heard on the courts.

A sprue gate feeds directly into the piece from the nozzle of the machine or a runner. It has the advantage of a short direct flow, with minimal pressure loss. Its disadvantages include the lack of cold slug, the possibilities of sinking around the gate, the high stress concentration around the gate, and the need for gate removal. [Le tube carottier] permet de remonter la carotte à la surface du sol. Dans ce but, on dispose, entre la couronne et le tube carottier, un extracteur constitué par une bague métallique tronconique, dont la petite base est du côté de la couronne et qui est fendue suivant une génératrice. En s'introduisant dans le carottier, la carotte ouvre la bague et passe facilement. Mais quand on soulève l'outil, la bague solidaire de la carotte descend et se resserre grâce aux portées coniques du manchon extracteur. La carotte ainsi coincée peut être remontée jusqu'à la surface.
