Possibly all palms can be used as vegetables. The principal vegetable use of the palms is for the tender growing tip, deeply enclosed in leaf bases, and removed only by destruction of the growing point and thus the trunk of the palm. It is well recognized that this material, called palm cabbage, palm heart, millionaires salad, or palmito, differs in taste and thus in value from one species to another. 6, record 16, English, - heart%20of%20palm

Cabbage Flea Beetle. Phyllotreta albionica (Lec.). This beetle, which is found in most parts of Canada, attacks cabbage and many other plants of the Cruciferae family .... The cabbage flea beetle overwinters in the adult stage, usually in the soil in the fields, or in leaf litter or turf under hedges, trees and fence rows. There is one generation annually, with mating and egg laying occurring in the spring and the adults usually dying in late June or early July. The newly hatched larvae live in the soil and feed on the roots of host plants, where they also pupate. 4, record 46, English, - cabbage%20flea%20beetle

The fungus causing downy mildew of cabbage also attacks other crucifers, such as cauliflower, collards, Chinese cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, kale, and kohlrabi ... The first symptoms of downy mildew are the formation of black specks and yellow-brown spots on the upper leaf surface, accompanied by the development of a fluffy mold growth on the lower surface. Young leaves may fall off when infected, and on older leaves, the spots may coalesce, producing large, sunken, tan spots. The disease can attack young seedlings or plants that have already headed. On older cabbage plants, the disease produces dark, sunken spots, which may appear purplish, on the head or wrapper leaves. 3, record 65, English, - downy%20mildew%20of%20cabbage
