A noninvasive condition that increases the risk of developing cancer in the future; it occurs when abnormal cells accumulate in the breast lobules.

CONT

Lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS) is not a cancer, but its presence means that there is a small increase in the risk of developing breast cancer later in life. Even so, most women with LCIS do not develop breast cancer. Each breast contains hundreds of tiny lobules where milk is produced before and after childbirth. With LCIS, changes are found in the cells in the lining of the lobules or lobes of the breast. It is often present in both breasts.

Les carcinomes lobulaires in situ sont considérés comme dénotant un risque accru de cancer du sein plutôt que comme un cancer à proprement parler. Ils sont souvent décelés dans les biopsies du sein. Lorsque cela se produit, les deux seins sont dorénavant sujets à un risque accru de cancer. Une surveillance régulière, comportant deux examens cliniques des seins et deux mammographies annuels, est essentielle. Les femmes atteintes de CLIS pourraient envisager un traitement préventif au tamoxifène ou, dans certains cas, une mastectomie bilatérale prophylactique (excision préventive des deux seins).
