La structure chimique [des naphtalènes chlorés] permet théoriquement la formation de 75 isomères [...]. Les propriétés physico-chimiques dépendent du taux de chloration. Les points d'ébullition et de fusion s'élèvent à mesure que le nombre d'atomes de chlore augmente, alors que diminuent dans le même temps la tension de vapeur et la solubilité dans l'eau. [...] Ces substances n'existent pas à l'état naturel. Elles sont obtenues par chloration de naphtalène en présence de chlorure ferrique, celui-ci agissant comme catalyseur.
