3, record 40, French, - couche%20dure

"Bridging layer" means that a layer has become thick and strong enough that it can provide a "bridge" over the weak layers underlying it. So weight applied on the surface will have a harder time penetrating through the strong "midpack" and triggering the weaker snow near the bottom. "Bridging" is impossible to quantify and if the bridge fails then the result is normally a very large avalanche. If the resolution of the image is sufficiently high (e.g. 1m or less), it may be that each pixel will represent only one type of land cover, and so we can make an accurate 'hard' classification. However, for lower-resolution images - the kind that are more readily available for different places and for different times - each pixel is likely to represent a mix of different land-cover types. As a result, a hard classification will probably represent only a part of the pixel and will inaccurately describe the remainder of the area covered by that pixel. 4, record 43, English, - hard%20classification

Contact leaching paint, also known as hard-racing or long-life paints, are also free-association types but have an insoluble matrix. Continuous biocide release is generated by the high biocide concentration ensuring that biocide particles contact each other through the paint film. As surface biocide is released, microchannels are created which permit release of biocide from deeper in the coating. Biocide release rates decrease exponentially with time and effective life is again limited to periods rarely exceeding 18 months. 3, record 44, English, - contact%20leaching%20antifouling%20paint

Heading rapid alignment. In trying to achieve the highest possible torquing rates during rapid and main align, the DG [directional gyro] is unconventionally torqued at the azimuth axis. The movement of the DG sensitive axis is restricted to [plus or minus] 1 degree in the pick-off torquer, Microsyn, by a hard stop. When the torque is applied, the sensitive axis locks at its limits of [plus or minus] 1 degree and effectively assists in positioning the azimuth gimbal. During the alignment, an azimuth tachometer supplies the required damping to prevent overshooting. The pick-off torquer, when forced against its stops, generates and error signal. 1, record 61, English, - hard%20stop

The secret of true, or hard, porcelain ... was not discovered until about 1707 in Saxony .... The terms soft and hard porcelain refer to the soft firing (about 2,200 °F, or 1,200 °C) necessary for the first, and the hard firing (about 2,650 °F, or 1,450 °C) necessary for the second. By coincidence they apply also to the physical properties of the two substances: for example, soft porcelain can be cut with a file, whereas hard porcelain cannot. 1, record 84, English, - hard%20porcelain
