L'épidémie du Royaume-Uni est attribuée à deux facteurs principaux : la présence d'une proportion élevée de viande de mouton infectée par la tremblante dans les rations et l'utilisation de systèmes d'équarrissage qui n'éliminaient pas la cause de l'infection.
