The Ontario Geothermal Association (OGA) is a not-for-profit organization representing geothermal energy system designers, drillers, installers, equipment manufacturers and distributors to advance Ontario's geothermal heating and cooling industry. The OGA strives to be a bridge between consumers, government and industry professionals while acting as a voice to increase awareness for the importance of working towards the use of a greener, cleaner and self-sustainable energy source.

Steam or hot water deposits exist in relatively shallow depths within the earth's crust and can be used directly or by boreholes; the state of engineering allows the conversion into electric power or for a domestic and agricultural utilization. The maintenance of water pressure in a geothermal deposit requires the water injection: it is intended to exploit the heat and not the water. There are two principal types of geothermal deposits: the deposit of high enthalpy, the deposit of low enthalpy.

Hitherto, apart from various passing references to non-condensible gases, geothermal fluids have been treated in this book simply as H20 - hot water and/or steam. However, these fluids are invariably accompanied by gases and, in the case of wet fluids, by water-soluble substances, some of which can be potentially dangerous to the construction components of a geothermal installation and to the environment.

A non profit organization created in 1994, has as its mission implementing the National Earth Comfort Program. The National Earth Comfort Program is a collaborative effort between the US Department of Energy, the US Environmental Protection Agency, and private sector organizations interested in promoting the growth of energy-efficient, environmentally friendly heating and cooling technology. The GHPC's specific area of interest is in increasing the use of GeoExchange technology for both commercial and residential heating and cooling. GeoExchange systems use the earth's renewable energy to provide heating in winter, and cooling in summer, with energy consomption 25% to 50% less than traditional oil, natural gas, and electric heat pump systems. Moreover because GeoExchange systems burn no fossil fuels in creating heat, they reduce greenhouse gas emissions substantially, and eliminate a source of carbon monoxide inside the homes and commercial buildings where they're used.
