Until recently, HIB [Haemophilus influenzae type b] was one of the most important causes of bacterial infection in young children. HIB may cause a variety of diseases such as meningitis (inflammation of the coverings of the spinal column and brain), blood stream infections, pneumonia, arthritis and infections of other parts of the body. 2, record 5, English, - Haemophilus%20influenzae%20type%20b
Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Haemophilus influenzae is a pleomorphic gram-negative coccobacillus that may be either encapsulated (types a-f) or unencapsulated (nontypeable). Most cases of invasive diseases in children, before the introduction of H. influenzae type b (Hib) conjugate vaccination, were caused by type b. 3, record 5, English, - Haemophilus%20influenzae%20type%20b

1, record 5, French, - Haemophilus%20influenzae%20de%20type%20b

Studies of bacterial interactions with respiratory cells or intact mucosa in vitro have provided important information about the pathogenesis of Haemophilus influenzae infections, which may in the future lead to the development of new treatments. Infection causes patchy, and sometimes confluent, damage to epithelium and bacteria adhere predominantly to mucus, damaged cells and exposed collagen. 1, record 6, English, - Haemophilus%20influenzae%20infection

3, record 6, French, - infection%20%C3%A0%20Haemophilus%20influenzae
