Staff described the history of the area and the siting processes that have occurred to date, and in particular, the steps taken since the federal government established a Siting Task Force on Low-Level Radioactive Waste Management in 1988, and the events leading up to the establishment of principles of understanding and a legal agreement between the federal government and the municipalities of Hope Township, Port Hope (now amalgamated as Port Hope) and Clarington in 2000.
