Les axes servent à indiquer le centre des cercles, l'axe des pièces cylindriques et les axes de symétrie. Pour simplifier, on utilise souvent le trait continu pour représenter les axes; en général, on doit toutefois préférer le trait interrompu. Les lignes de cote ne doivent jamais prêter à confusion avec les lignes d'axe, mais ces dernières, par contre, peuvent servir de lignes de rappel.
