Les exigences au niveau de l'éclairement ne cessent de croître. Partant et afin de réduire l'augmentation de charge frigorifique qui en résulte, on utilise des luminaires à reprise d'air, c'est-à-dire que l'air ambiant est repris par l'intermédiaire de ces luminaires. La chaleur émise par convection par le luminaire et une partie de l'énergie émise par rayonnement sont donc évacuées par l'air repris.
