MAGMATISME [9 records]

Record 1 2011-05-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Vulcanology and Seismology
DEF

The processes of the formation of magma, its subsequent development, displacement, interaction with solid rocks, and solidification.

OBS

magmatism: term used at Natural Resources Canada - Earth Sciences Sector.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Volcanologie et sismologie
DEF

Subject field(s)

CONT

Another thermal force that can induce rifting is from more acute magmatism that penetrates towards the surface. Penetrative magmatism produces uplift at the surface in about 20 Ma, whereas thermal isostasy is a broader, slower process taking about 100 Ma to uplift the surface ... Thermal isostasy lags in time because rock is a poor conductor of heat, and penetrative magmatism fractures and heats the surrounding material rapidly.

CONT

Remnants of the mountains formed during subduction before the collision may be preserved in the central part of the belt, but after intense metamorphism and pervasive magmatism, their original nature may be hard to reconstruct.

OBS

pervasive magmatism: term used at Natural Resources Canada - Earth Sciences Sector.

Record 3 2010-12-30

English

Subject field(s)
  • Vulcanology and Seismology
CONT

Arc magmatism is intimately related to metamorphism, although this relationship is complicated largely because maximum pressures and temperatures are attained at different times.

CONT

Subduction zones are the main factories for making continental crust ... The primary constructive processes are trench accretion, arc magmatism, and arc-continent collision.

OBS

arc magmatism: term used at Natural Resources Canada - Earth Sciences Sector.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Volcanologie et sismologie
CONT

CONT

The initiation of kimberlite magmatism is deep seated, and correlation of this magmatism with hotspots or plate tectonic processes (transform fault extensions, subduction zones, etc.) has not been satisfactorily demonstrated on a worldwide basis.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Pétrographie
CONT

CONT

... there is a close temporal relationship between porphyry copper mineralization and associated calc-alkaline magmatism.
