Chez les amateurs, certains joueurs n'en ont plus parce qu'ils réussissent régulièrement la normale et même souvent, ramènent une carte sour la normale. L'Office de la langue française recommande de nommer le golfeur du premier groupe, un maître-golfeur, et celui du second, un as-golfeur, plutôt que d'utiliser les anglicismes «scratch» et «crack».
