Mal connue pendant plus de vingt ans, on estime que l'intervention d'un virus (Parvovirus?) est de plus en plus crédible. On note une invasion plasmocytaire diffuse avec glomérulonéphrite et encéphalite; le tout s'accompagnant d'une hypergammaglobulinémie, avec déficit en lymphocytes T.
