A severe, exanthematous illness principally affecting children, especially from age 2 months to 9 years. It is characterized by high fever, pharyngitis, stomatitis, strawberry tongue, cervical lymphadenitis, arthralgia, diarrhea and a polymorphic exanthem in which there is induration and edema of the skin, red palms and soles and peeling of finger tips.

La maladie prédomine nettement chez le nourrisson [...]. Elle commence par un état fébrile [...] avec congestion conjonctivale (sans suppuration), rougeur et sécheresse de l'oro-pharynx, langue framboisée, lèvres sèches, fissurées, érythème maculeux [...] prédominant aux extrémités, se généralisant en deux jours avec tendance à la coalescence des éléments [...] Les doigts et les orteils sont le siège d'un oedème dur et rouge. Il a quelques adénopathies. Au cours de la dernière semaine apparaît une desquamation qui prédomine au bout des doigts et orteils et au pourtour des ongles.
