Within the group of Lewy body disease (LBD), DLB [dementia with Lewy bodies] is one of the diseases while Parkinson disease dementia (PDD) is another. They present a similar neuropathological appearance but differentiate in their clinical expression. In DLB, the cognitive symptoms precede the motor symptoms, whereas in PDD the non-cognitive symptoms are the first sign of the disease.

A progressive, degenerative neurologic disease characterized by a tremor that is maximal at rest, retropulsion (i.e. a tendency to fall backwards), rigidity, stooped posture, slowness of voluntary movements, and a masklike facial expression.

Pathologic features include loss of melanin containing neurons in the substantia nigra and other pigmented nuclei of the brainstem. Lewy bodies are present in the substantia nigra and locus coeruleus.

La maladie de Parkinson est principalement caractérisée par des symptômes moteurs tels que : tremblements des membres au repos, rigidité musculaire, akinésie ou bradykinésie, c'est-à-dire impossibilité ou ralentissement des mouvements. Outre ces symptômes moteurs apparaissent aussi, parfois, des atteintes intellectuelles, telles la détérioration de la mémoire et la difficulté à adapter son comportement au changement de situation.
