Le but des réactions de fusion entre le deutérium et le tritium est de produire une quantité d'énergie supérieure à celle injectée par le faisceau laser. Pour le futur laser mégajoule devant être construit par la DAM, la simulation numérique de l'implosion de cibles laser permet, entre autres, d'optimiser la position et l'orientation des faisceaux pour assurer une implosion la plus sphérique possible, donc la plus performante.
