Weedless Wednesday has been a focal point of National Non-Smoking Week almost from the start, focusing media and public attention on the benefits of cessation and the community resources available to help smokers quit. The idea behind Weedless Wednesday is to promote a "one day at a time" approach to quitting smoking, a concept appealing to many smokers who may be discouraged at the thought of an entire week -- or lifetime - without cigarettes, but may be able to cope with one smoke-free day.

Le mercredi sans tabac est, presque depuis le début, l'une des activités importante de la Semaine nationale sans fumée. Cette journée attire l'attention des médias et du public sur les avantages de la cessation tabagique et les ressources communautaires accessibles aux personnes qui désirent arrêter de fumer. L'idée qui guide le mercredi sans tabac est de suivre une approche «un jour à la fois» pour cesser de fumer, un concept qui plaît aux fumeurs qui seraient autrement découragés s'ils pensaient en fonction d'une semaine entière - ou de toute une vie - sans cigarette mais qui peuvent composer avec l'idée d'une journée sans fumer.
