A magnesium-rich member of the mica mineral family.

Phlogopite is a yellowish-brown to coppery-colored mica. Like all micas, phlogopite forms flat, plate-like crystals that cleave into smooth flakes.

phlogopite: named from the Greek "phlogos," firelike, in reference to its usual reddish tinge.

La phlogopite [...] se distingue de la biotite par sa teneur en fluor et par son manque total ou presque en fer; on la trouve en lames brun jaune dans les marbres et les dolomites métamorphiques de contact ainsi que dans des roches peridotitiques. On l'utilise comme isolant.

phlogopite : étymologie : vient du grec «phlogos-opos», «flamme, enflammé». Allusion à la couleur rougeâtre lorsqu'on chauffe la phlogopite.
