Mitres, mitrons, lanternes [...] Ces poteries terminent hors comble les conduits de fumée et de ventilation. Les mitres sont scellées généralement sur les boisseaux ou sur des tuiles à douille, élément de couverture portant un trou rond à collerette. Si la hauteur de la mitre est suffisante, elle est coiffée simplement d'une lanterne, de forme et d'aspect très variables, qui, en laissant passer les gaz tout en favorisant le tirage, ferme la partie supérieure du conduit de fumée et empêche l'eau de pluie de pénétrer. Si la hauteur de la mitre n'est pas suffisante, on interpose un mitron entre elle et la lanterne, ou encore, on la surmonte simplement d'un mitron.

OBS

les termes anglais «chimney pot» et «chimney can» semblent désigner sans les distinguer à la fois «mitron» et «mitre».
