L'Allemagne impériale (1871 à 1918) a voulu constituer une zone d'influence politique et économique en Europe centrale, ce qui fut d'ailleurs l'un de ses objectifs pendant la Première Guerre mondiale. Ce terme peut être employé aujourd'hui pour désigner la domination économique que l'Allemagne réunifiée pourrait exercer sur les anciens pays du bloc soviétique.
