One of the primary objectives of ICAO is to promote the safety of civil aviation worldwide. With 188 Contracting States, and its active involvement in global aviation safety issues, ICAO is well-positioned to assume a coordinating role with respect to the many safety initiatives under way worldwide all with the common aim of reducing the number and rate of aviation accidents.
