English

Subject field(s)
  • Chemistry
DEF

Descriptive of substances that are not capable of mixing or being mixed (as oil and water).

CONT

Not all substances are able to dissolve one another. Miscible substances can be mixed into a homogenous solution of equal parts ..., while immiscible substances cannot merge. Immiscible substances literally repel one another. ... In other words, they are incapable of forming a solution since neither property will dissolve into a mixture, nor can they be homogenously mixed without dissolving.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Chimie

Record 6 1989-10-30

English

Subject field(s)
  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Fires and Explosions
CONT

While a number of different types of foam are commercially available for fighting chemical fire, only two types of foam are considered in this book: "ordinary foam, such as AFFF or protein foam and "alcohol" foam, i.e., alcohol resistant foam. "Alcohol" foam is recommended for some water miscible and some immiscible flammable liquids which tend to break down other foams. In cases where a doubt exists as to the requirement for or efficiency of "alcohol" foam, "ordinary" foam is recommended.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Chimie analytique
  • Feux et explosions
CONT
