This document, titled "Technical Security Standard for Information Technology" (TSSIT), is designed to assist users in implementing cost-effective security in their information technology (IT) environments. The purpose of TSSIT is to set out the detailed administrative, technical and procedural safeguards required in an IT environment in order to implement the requirements of the "Security" volume, Treasury Board Manual, herein referred to as the "Security Policy of the Government of Canada" (GSP). This document is a technical-level standard for the protection of classified and designated information stored, processed or communicated on electronic data processing equipment. Government information is to be adequately protected through good, basic information management and physical and material management procedures. La présente «Norme de sécurité technique dans le domaine de la technologie de l'information» (NSTTI) a pour but d'aider les utilisateurs à prendre des mesures efficaces et peu coûteuses pour assurer la sécurité de leurs installations informatiques. Elles font état des mesures administratives, des techniques et des procédures requises pour satisfaire aux exigences énoncées dans le volume «Sécurité» du Manuel du Conseil du Trésor, appelé ci-après la Politique du gouvernement du Canada sur la sécurité (PGCS). Cette norme s'applique à la protection des renseignements désignés ou classifiés qui sont stockés, traités ou transmis par voie électronique. Les renseignements gouvernementaux doivent être bien protégés par le respect des principles de base de la saine gestion de l'information et des biens.
