The Polar Orbiting Earth Observation Mission (Poem-1), which is a large satellite for the monitoring of the environment scheduled to be launched in 2000. The objective of the Polar Orbiting Earth Observation (Poem-1) is to develop and build a new satellite platform to accommodate Earth Observation Instruments and supply them with the necessary energy. It is important to build a satellite platform because the lifetime of a satellite is limited and because the continuity of measurements, which is of primary importance to monitor the evolution of our environment and potential climate change, can be ensured only by flying a succession of satellites.

La Mission d'observation de la Terre sur orbite polaire (Poem-1), un gros satellite de surveillance environnementale dont le lancement est prévu en l'an 2000. Poem-1 a pour objectif de développer et de construire une nouvelle plate-forme satellite pouvant loger des instruments d'observation de la Terre et les alimenter avec l'énergie nécessaire. La construction d'une plate-forme et de la nécessité d'assurer la continuité des mesures, qui sont d'une importance capitale si l'on veut suivre l'évolution de notre environnement et des changements climatiques.
