The groundwater system in the area consists of an unconfined aquifer formed by the phyllitic rocks. The recharge and discharge conditions in the watershed area are primarily governed by the lithological variations within the phyllitic rocks as well as by the openings (and the lack of them) due to the disposition and characters of the rocks as foliation.
